جاء هذا الموسم بسبب الحاجة لبناء أرشيف يوفر الاستمرارية التي باتت المنطقة في أمس الحاجة لها وهي تشهد التعايش ما بين الهدم والبناء الذي يشكل فراغ في ذاكرة تضاريس المدينة. أرشيف المدينة لا ينبغي أن يسرد قصة واحدة، بل مجموعة من القصص المغايرة التي تستطيع جميعها تقديم أقرب تصور ل"الحقيقة" لفهم السياق بشكل عام.

وساطات تسعى من خلال صناعة الأفلام الوثائقية إلى كشف وخلق انسجام ما بين الروايات المختلفة للمدينة ومجتمعاتها المختلفة وسجلاتها المتباينة، وتأتي الجفير كمنظار إلى حديث أوسع يدور حول تأثير الاقتصاد والسياسات الدولية في تشكيل تضاريس المدينة. هذه الأفلام الوثائقية القصيرة تتنقل ما بين الغياب والحضور وما بين الانعزال والاندماج وما بين الحرية المطلقة والتزمت المطلق.

بالإضافة للأفلام ستقام محاضرات تتفكر في عملية الأرشفة فضلا عن ما قد تتضمنه من تبعات جراء إنشاء هذه الأرشيفات. المحاضرات تتنقل ما بين التحكم في سرد الروايات التاريخية وانعدام الرواية التاريخية ومن لديه الحق في إمتلاك المعرفة. بالإضافة إلى ذلك سيتم تسليط الضوء على التحديات المشتركة على المستوى الإقليمي مع التركيز بوجه خاص على التحديات التي تواجهها البحرين في الأرشفة.

علاوة على ذلك سيكون هناك عرض لأفلام سينمائية تتحرى العلاقة ما بين واسطة العمارة في (إعادة)بناء الروايات التاريخية والهويات، وتوفر هذه الأفلام نظرة ثاقبة في التجسيد المكاني للذاكرة من خلال عرض دور العمران في تدمير وإعادة بناء ذاكرة المكان.

يمكن للجمهور الإطلاع من خلال المكتبة الموجودة داخل مساحة العرض والتي تم إنشاؤها من قبل مكتبة أطلس، تم تسليط الضوء على إصدارات من مجلة عالم البناء تحتوي على مواد مرتبطة بالتطور العمراني في البحرين ومنطقة الخليج إجمالا. أطلس مكتبة هي مكتبة الإقراض وبيع الكتب، التي تحتل حاليا مساحة المشروع في فندق شيراتون الدوحة في قطر.تركز مكتبة أطلس القائمة في فندق شيراتون الدوحة بدولة قطر على بناء مجموعة من المطبوعات القديمة و النادرة و توثيق وأرشفة مواد حول العمارة والعمران في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا.

أدت التطورات في المدينة إلى تجريد البحر الذي لا يمكن رؤيته، يمكن ملاحظة ذلك في تصميم المعرض الذي يماثل خطوط الشاطئ الطبيعية و المردومة كرمز لاستحضار البحر من الذاكرة.

أدى التحديث من المدينة في البحر التي لم تعد قادرة على أن ينظر استبدالها بفكرة مجردة من البحر. وهذا يمكن أن يتم الكشف عن ولوحظ في مساحة المعرض التي هي فكرة مجردة من الساحل عرض الأيقونات والرموز التي من شأنها خلق استحضارها من الذاكرة من أجل البحر ليكونوا من ذوي الخبرة.

الموسم الثقافي الواقع في الأماكن العامة المتاحة في منطقة الجفير سيكون مصحوبا بورش عمل وجولات ثقافية ومكتبة مؤقتة بالتعاون مع فنانين ومعماريين وأكاديميين محليين ودوليين.

يهدف هذا الموسم لبدء دليل لأرشيف حول التطور الحضري والمعماري يخدم المعماريين والطلاب والباحثين وجميع المهتمين بشأن المدينة.

In a region where both construction and demolition coexist comfortably to form a void in the urban memory of the terrain, there is full awareness of a necessity in setting up an archive to provide the much needed continuity. A city’s archive should not consist of a single story, but rather, fragmented stories that come together to present the closest depiction of the "truth" in comprehending a wider context. 

Through documentary filmmaking, [Media]tions aims to uncover and reconcile the multiplicity of narratives held by the city, its various communities and archives, utilizing Juffair as the lens into a wider discourse on the influence of economy and geo-politics on urban development. The short documentaries mediate between absence and presence, between spaces of segregation and integration and between fluidity and rigidity.

Accompanying the commissioned films are talks that reflect on the process of archiving as well as the implications of the production of archives. The talks will navigate through the control of narrative, the lack of it and the ownership of information. It will also highlight difficulties faced on a regional level when archiving with a specific focus on challenges faced when archiving in Bahrain. 

Furthermore movie screenings shall take place to explore the agency of architecture in (de)constructing historical narratives and identities. These screenings provide an insight into the spatial materialization of memory through the depiction of both the destruction and the recreation of memory through architecture.  

A library can be found within the space that is provided by Atlas, which has curated a selection from Alam Al Benna magazine that highlights urban development in Bahrain and the wider Gulf region. The Atlas Bookstore is a lending library and bookstore, which currently occupies a project space at the Sheraton Doha Hotel in Qatar. 

Modernization of the city resulted in a sea that can no longer be seen replacing it with the abstract idea of a sea. This can be detected and observed within the exhibition space that is an abstraction of the coastline presenting icons and symbols that would create an evocation of memory in order for the sea to be experienced. 

The cultural season, to take place in accessible spaces across Juffair, will be accompanied by a program of events, including workshops and tours organized in collaboration with local and international artists, architects and academics. 

The season aims to start an urban and architectural archival directory that can be used by architects, students, researchers and the interested public.
