تم تكليف موانئ من قبل هيئة البحرين للثقافة والآثار للقيام بالبحث المراد عرضه والمشاركة به في بينالي البندقية للعمارة. وعليه قامت موانئ بعقد جلسة نقاش قبل الشروع في البحث حيث التقى مجموعة من الضيوف للتعريف بالألمنيوم من خلال خلفياتهم المختلفة في محاولة لإلهام حوار نقدي ووضع قائمة المواضيع المراد التطرق إليها وإطار العمل اللازمين للقيام بالبحث. تعددت الطرق العلمية المستخدمة لجمع المعلومات والبيانات عن الموضوع وآثاره الواسعة، ويتضمن ذلك القيام بمسوحات عمرانية وصناعية واقتصادية بالإضافة إلى بحث أرشيفي ومقابلات مع مختلف الشركاء والمعنيين في قطاعي صناعة الألمنيوم والبناء.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أنه يلزم تخصيص وقت أطول للبحث للوصول لنتيجة أكثر تكاملاً وذلك إدراكاً منا بأن هذا العمل قد لا يفي الموضوع حقه وعمقه وأن النتائج لامست فقط جوانبه الظاهرية

Mawane was commissioned by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities to carry out the research for Bahrain’s National Participation at La Biennale di Venezia with no constraints on the course of the research. A Majlis – informal discussion – was held prior to the commencement of the research and guests from different backgrounds were invited to give brief presentations about aluminum in order to inspire a critical dialogue and set a table of content for the exhibition's accompanying publication as well as the framework for the research needed to achieve it. Several methods were used to gather the data on the topic and its wider implications, including urban and industrial surveys, economical mapping, archival research and interviews with different stakeholders in the industry and the construction business.

However, we realise that the outcomes barely scratch the surface and that further research, over a longer period of time, will allow a more in depth analysis.
